Why we chose it

Most wall clocks announce themselves twice: once with their design, and again every second, all night. This one does neither. The movement is a silent sweep rather than a stepping tick, so a quiet room stays quiet — which matters more than you'd think in a bedroom or a room you work in. And rather than a solid face, the design is an open ring: segmented wooden arcs floating around a warm wood centre, so the wall shows through it. It reads clearly from across a room without becoming a slab on the wall.

Choose your dial

The same clock comes in three dial designs, so you can pick how much detail you want on the wall.

  • Type A — numerals at twelve, three, six and nine, with slim tapered line markers at the hours between. The quietest of the three.
  • Type B — all twelve numerals in warm wood, set around the dial. The most traditional to read at a glance, and the most decorative.
  • Type C — numerals at twelve, three, six and nine, with small round dot markers between. Sits neatly between the other two.

All three share the same open segmented ring, the same solid wood centre disc and the same slim brass-toned hands.

The details

The outer ring is formed from separate curved wooden segments rather than one continuous circle, which is what gives the clock its light, open look. At the centre sits a solid wood disc carrying slim brass-toned hands on a small brass pin. Behind it is a quartz sweep movement, so there is no audible ticking.

The open ring is what makes this one worth placing carefully. Dust the ring and face with a dry, soft cloth — the open segments gather a little more dust than a solid dial, so a light going-over now and then keeps it sharp. Avoid damp cloths and cleaning sprays on the wood, and keep it out of direct steam or prolonged sunlight to protect the natural finish. Replace the battery once a year to keep the sweep running smoothly.
