Solar Lanterns | Hanging Solar Lights for Garden, Teardrop, Cool White
Why we chose it
A hanging light does something a staked light can't: it puts the glow at eye level, where you actually notice it. This one is a teardrop lantern on an S hook, so it goes up in seconds — over a branch, along a pergola, on a fence bracket — and comes down just as easily when you want to move it. Solar powered, so there's no cable to bury and no socket to find, which is usually the thing that stops people lighting the far end of a garden.
The details
Fifteen cool white LEDs sit inside the teardrop, giving a crisp light rather than a warm yellow one — it reads as clean and modern instead of cosy, which suits contemporary planting and hard landscaping better than it suits a cottage garden. The panel charges through the day and the lantern lights itself at dusk without you doing anything.
The body is weather-resistant plastic rated IP55, so it's protected against dust and against water jetted from any direction. That's a step up from splash-proof and means it copes with driving rain rather than just a light shower.

Style it in your home
Hung in a group at staggered heights from a single tree, these look far better than spaced evenly in a line — the varied drop is what makes them feel deliberate rather than municipal. Along a pergola they work at regular intervals, but keep them to one side rather than centred so they light the seating below without glaring at anyone sat under them. The cool white sits well against grey stone, black metal and green foliage.

Care guide
Keep the solar panel clean — a dusty or leaf-covered panel is the most common reason a solar light stops performing, and a wipe with a damp cloth usually fixes what looks like a dead lantern. Bring them in over deep winter if you can, to protect the battery. Avoid solvent cleaners on the plastic.
Frequently asked questions
Does it come on automatically?
Yes. It charges through the day and lights itself at dusk with no switch or timer to set.
Is it warm white or cool white?
Cool white — a crisp, clean light rather than a soft yellow one. Worth knowing if you're matching existing warm-toned garden lighting.
Can it stay out in bad weather?
Yes. IP55 means it's dust-protected and resists water jetted from any direction, so heavy rain is fine.
How do I hang it?
It comes with an S hook, so it will go straight over a branch, a pergola beam, a fence bracket or a shepherd's hook. Nothing to wire in.
How long does a charge last?
The manufacturer doesn't publish a figure, so we'd rather not guess. Expect shorter run times through midwinter when there's less daylight to charge from.
What colour is it?
Blue. Please check the images before ordering if you were expecting a neutral or metallic finish.
